I prayed for the end of the coronavirus plague, and made this in the image of the legend of Shōki（鍾馗）.”It has been a while since I made a figure of an aggressive woman, but netsuke allows composition and dynamic pose to be expressed neatly. This work references Shōki, a performance of the Iwami Kagura（石見神楽）, a traditional music and dance of Shimane Prefecture where I was born. Shōki is syncretized with the deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto, and I made the work with an image of Susanoo-no-Mikoto I am familiar with.
