About Shinya NAGASHIMAprofile

Nagashima Shinya was born in an area with a mythical cultural tradition.

As a boy, he was enthusiastic about making fishing lures.

He studied sculpture at Kyoto University of Art and Design before graduating in 2010.

He then taught himself netsuke carving before going on to make innovations in the world of contemporary netsuke.

By exploring the possibilities of netsuke carving, figure doll, and woodcarving, Nagashima successfully incorporated elements of contemporary culture and customs into his work.

This innovation characterizes his netsuke, and has also become one of its charms.
