Explanation of work(ANGŌ)
"Choku" means a small cup to hold food and seasonings, a small cup to hold dipping sauce for soba noodles, sake, etc. "Boron" is another name for wandering Zen priest. It is said that any vessel that is over 100 years old will become a Yōkai called a Tsukumo-gami.

Explanation of work(ANGŌ)
Manjū netsuke with a motif of a tofu boy standing alone in a small alley connected to the main approach in the old days.

ANGŌ Profile

1960: Born in Ehime Prefecture. Encountered netsuke while looking for old shogi pieces at an antique market.
2000: Began teaching himself netsuke carving.
2003: Studied netsuke carving under Ryuushi Komada and Akira Kuroiwa at the Asahi Culture’s Contemporary Netsuke Course.
Ango adds an element of the contemporary to his work, while at the same time valuing the calming and comfortable form, color, and style of classical netsuke. Through his work, he put the spotlight back onto manju (round) netsuke. With the beautiful fusion of deep and delicate coloring and carving technique, he has had a large influence on young artists.
