Explanation of work(KOMA)
They are ghosts who appear as chaperones to St. Nicholas, the model for Santa Claus, and have the task of going around spanking the bad boys while the saint gives gifts to the good boys. Parades of these ghosts are held in Germany and other parts of central Europe as a Christmas event. They are very similar to the visiting gods of Japan, such as Namahage, and they also have the kindness to wish for the happiness of children.

Explanation of work(KOMA)
This is the spirit of a girl who is a ghost story about a school and is talked about as the representative of the Seven Wonders. She is said to be lurking in the third private room of the restroom. She has a variety of personalities and behaviors depending on the area, but they all share the same figure of a girl in a red hanging skirt with an okappa head. Her real name is said to be Hanako Hasegawa.

KOMA Profile

1985: Born in Shimane Prefecture.
2010: Completed a Masters degree in sculpture at Tokyo University of Arts.
2011: Began carving netsuke under the name Koma and also worked as a woodcarver.
Koma started carving netsuke after meeting Shinya NAGASHIMA, also from the same region, who introduced him to contemporary netsuke. Koma specializes in animal netsuke designs and became passionate about Yōkai from the influence of Shigeru MIZUKI. Koma contributed to the Toshidensetsu (Urban Legends) series and is one of the originators of the current exhibition.
