Explanation of work(Kaoruko YURA)
The artist wanted to make a three-dimensional netsuke from the curious shape of the amabie while retaining the atmosphere of a painting (two-dimensional), so she referred to the ancient toy paintings of the past.

Explanation of work(Kaoruko YURA)
The artist referenced an imaginary insect that was thought to cause disease, as described in the ancient book “Harikikigaki” (1568), and created a new type of coronavirus as a disease bug.

Kaoruko YURA Profile

1993: Born in Hyogo Prefecture.
2015: Graduates from Musashino Art University (Sculpture)
2018: Graduates from Tajimi-shi Potter Design and Technical Center.
2019: Joins the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo.
With techniques acquired from an art university and a pottery research center, Kaoruko YURA produces ceramic netsuke with a cordial view of creatures and Yōkai. Currently, there are few netsuke artists working in ceramics. We look forward to her future activity.
