Explanation of work(YAMAGA)
There is a legend in many parts of Japan that kappa love to wrestle and challenge humans to a sumo match. It is said that kappa are strong, but if they spill water from the plate on their heads, they immediately lose their strength and are defeated by children.

YAMAGA Profile

1965: Born in Tokyo
2008: Began carving netsuke. Produces netsuke while also engaged in the family inkan (personal seal) business.
YAMAGA first studied netsuke for the purpose of carving seal accessories. For a short time, he received instruction in the fundamentals from Bishu SAITO. He then set out to produce netsuke as a solo artisan. He has a long association with regional festivals, and has for a long time enjoyed those with a culture of using netsuke. Many of his own netsuke are round and stable.
