Explanation of work(RIPPO)
It is said that if you don't pick persimmon nuts, it will turn into a monster called "Tantankororin". Originally, it is a gentle character Yōkai. However, this netsuke has been arranged into a slightly meaner character, snapping its scissors on its back as it tells you that it will cut off all the fruit in the village if you don't pick the fruits of the persimmon. This work is inspired by the Hirakakunashi-persimmon (Flat, square, seedless persimmon) that is often made in Sendai, where the story of Tantankororin is told. Hirakakunashi is the artist's favorite persimmon.

Rippo is a self-taught netsuke artist, employing the techniques acquired from his professional occupation. His artwork includes the influence of manga artist Akira TORIYAMA. Rippo’s combined style of the austere world of netsuke and the brighter and lighter world of comics is delightful.
